The news comes three years to the day that the New York Times' purchase of The Athletic was first reported.

As the New York Times Co. slashes jobs and integrates The Athletic further into its content stream, the sports newsroom's staff is considering a union.
The Times says the sports-centric site lost $8.7 million during Q1 2024.
The Athletic still isn't profitable, but it's getting there.
