SportsCenter pokes fun at Atlanta Snowmaggedon coverage
Jay Rigdon (Awful Announcing & The Comeback) had a must-read hilarious breakdown of Atlanta news station WSB’s 14-way winter storm coverage, and at the end of the post added in an update that it had gone to 22 (!) reporters on the news:
Atlanta dead has a 22-person split screen on the news RN for 2-5 inches of snow, I'm so weak 😂😭💀 pic.twitter.com/g1QDRIqHH4

Well, SportsCenter even acknowledged this ridiculous coverage, and placed anchors Max Bretos and Nicole Briscoe in the 22-way screen:
ESPN obsessed over a guy that wasn’t playing in Saturday’s Raiders-Texans playoff game
Okay, so the Atlanta snow coverage mocking was great, but ESPN’s J.J. Watt coverage on Saturday was a bit overboard, and Twitter definitely took notice. Watt is on Injured Reserve with a back injury, but a large amount of the — playoff — broadcast was spent on him. A big Texans play? Gotta get J.J.’s reaction on the sidelines! And several camera angles, too:
Even the halftime show:
Brent Musburger awkwardly wishes Joe Mixon a “wonderful NFL career” and went off at critics during the Sugar Bowl
Well this was uncomfortable.
You likely know how Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon was suspended for the 2014 season after punching a woman in the face and fracturing several of her bones. ESPN’s Brent Musburger addressed the topic during the Sugar Bowl between Oklahoma and Auburn:
“Given a second chance by Bob Stoops at Oklahoma, and folks, let’s hope that this young man makes the most of his chance and goes on to have a career in the National Football League.”
It was certainly not the best choice of words… but he wasn’t done. Musburger was made aware of the audience’s anger regarding his comments, and defended himself, before doubling down to wish Mixon “a wonderful” NFL career. This only made things more uncomfortable:
“I happen to pull for people with second chances, okay? I hope he has a wonderful career and he teaches people with that brutal, violent, video, okay?! Second down and nine.”
Bill Walton growls and claws like a bear at Dave Pasch
Goodness gracious sakes alive.
We took note of plenty more from Walton in that game, including his thoughts on being a part of tonight’s College Football Playoff Championship Megacast.
