Michelle Beadle’s campaign to be cast in ‘Sharknado 3’ pays off

Even successful TV personalities want to be in the movies. Well, calling Sharknado 3 a “movie” might be pushing it a bit. And it’s on TV, so it’s not like landing a role in the aquatic disaster trilogy is getting to the big screen.

But Michelle Beadle wanted a part in Sharknado 3. Her desire for the role only increased when the self-proclaimed “diehard Sharknado fan since minute one” found out that her SportsNation co-host, Marcellus Wiley, had been cast in the sharkquel. Beadle then decided to use her status and fame to pressure “Sharknado” producers, specifically casting executive Gerald Webb, to cast her in the movie.

(This is how Matt Lauer and Al Roker got cast in Sharknado 2, right? Or maybe that pressure happened behind the scenes.)

Apparently, the campaign paid off as Webb appeared on Thursday afternoon’s SportsNation to inform Beadle that she — and the people — are having their wishes granted. Beadle has indeed won a role in Sharknado 3.

No word yet on who Beadle will be playing in the movie. The part of our nation’s president has already been taken by Mark Cuban. Could Beadle portray a newscaster reporting the shark storm attacking Washington D.C.? Might she play herself, talking about the Sharknado with Wiley on SportsNation? (Would that even be allowed, since Syfy is under the NBC/Universal umbrella?)

Be bolder, “Sharknado” filmmakers. Let’s see Beadle take on some sharks. We know Ian Ziering gets the chainsaw. But how about Beadle playing a special forces operative, teamed with action hero Wiley to blow those predators up into shark steaks and sashimi?

But next time, maybe Beadle should use that TV influence to get cast in, like, the next Avengers film. Disney owns Marvel, so she’s already in the family as an ESPN personality.
