The length of a national anthem rendition is always interesting, even leading to over/under prop bets for the Super Bowl. Few performances come in as long as the over four-and-a-half-minute one Aretha Franklin delivered Thursday ahead of the Detroit Lions – Minnesota Vikings game, though, and that led to CBS referencing that in a time of possession graphic at the half:

Here’s the anthem in question:

And some of the athletes and sports media figures who reacted to it:
Thankful Aretha Franklin doesn't sing the Anthem when I pitch, pretty sure I would have to go back to the pen and warm back up #pipesthough

I was able to do all my Christmas shopping while Aretha sang the national anthem #happythanksgiving

I'm gonna tell all your grandchildren about the time you complained about seeing Aretha Franklin instead of the Detroit Lions

Between Aretha's national anthem and the family member that prays for 45 minutes, we ain't eating until Saturday

Bad news: Football is cancelled
Good news: 13-hour Aretha Franklin concert. Leave it on through dinner. Everybody will love it.— The Ringer (@ringer) November 24, 2016
It was the CBS reaction that got the most attention, though, and it’s certainly unusual to see a graphic like that pop up on a broadcast. Good for them for having some fun with it. The Vikings and Lions are currently tied at 10 in the third quarter, but don’t rule out Franklin and her clock-controlling offense down the stretch.
