In what was one of the most bizarre segments ever to appear on ESPN’s College GameDay, pop singer Katy Perry joined the program as the Guest Picker. The traveling roadshow that is GameDay visited Oxford, MS for the first time ever and to say this edition was memorable is an understatement.

Usually the guest has a connection to the school or location, but Perry who was born in California admitted to host Chris Fowler that her manager was from Mississippi and the Alabama-Ole Miss game was the first college football game that she would attend.

Dressed in something pink that had to be seen to be believed, Perry upstaged  everyone on the set from Desmond Howard to Lee Corso.

She brought her own props from a huge pencil to corn dogs that she eventually threw at the camera after Corso’s headgear pick. She asked if one of the games she was picking had the Gamecocks, but omit “Game” and also hit on Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight (“Call me”).

Trying to play to the crowd, Perry picked Mississippi State against Texas A&M which didn’t go over well, but she did take Mississippi over Alabama which got everyone into a frenzy. And to top it off, she removed Corso’s elephant head when he picked Alabama.

Here’s a sample of her appearance today thanks to Uproxx’s Andy Isaac.

And here are some reaction tweets. Let’s just say Perry was polarizing.

There’s not much that could top this and why would ESPN try?
