I randomly tuned to NBATV today, and my, oh my, did I choose a perfect time to do so.
A FIBA World Championships quarterfinals game between Serbia and Spain was on, and the score was 89-89 with the final seconds counting down. Serbia’s Milo Telodosic launched a three from Dan Majerle range, and drilled it, giving Serbia a shocking upset over the defending champion Spain. That in itself was absolutely amazing, but even more amazing to me was the call from the play-by-play guy on NBA TV.
The announcer (Liam Canny?) went crazy leading up to, during, and obviously after Telodosic’s shot. He sounded more like an American Gladiators or WWE broadcaster (with some Gus Johnson mixed in) to me than a basketball one, but I thoroughly enjoyed it anyway.
Check out his call of the play for yourself:
Serbia will now face the host team of the tournament, Turkey, and we can only hope this announcer calls the game. I need some more white knuckle time, baby.
And if you know the name of the announcer, please let us know(e-mail aatips@gmail.com) and we’ll edit this post.
