Thanks to NBC Sports and AT&T, Premier League fans will be able to watch the first live U.S. broadcast in 4K on DirecTV. Actually, that will be more than one broadcast, as Saturday’s match between Manchester and Tottenham will be offered, followed by Sunday’s Arsenal-Burnley game.
This won’t just be a one-time gimmick, either. According to Engadget, NBC Sports will broadcast select Premier League matches throughout the 2016-17 season in 4K on DirecTV. That full schedule has yet to be announced.
Saturday’s Manchester City-Tottenham match will broadcast at 12:30 ET, while Sunday’s Arsenal-Burnley contest will televise at 9:15 a.m. ET. Both telecasts will be on channel 106. (The matches will also be available on standard and high-definition TV on NBC and NBCSN.)
Premier League soccer will be the third sport broadcast in 4K by NBC Sports. Previously, the network televised Notre Dame football and the Rio Olympics in that format.
As our Ken Fang explained back in December, watching 4K programming on DirecTV requires an HR54 Genie HD DVR, a 4K TV and a DirecTV technician to install the Genie system.
