In a case of extreme corporate synergy, Fox is really pullimg out the stops to promote June’s FIFA Women’s World Cup. On Wednesday, Fox had US Women’s National team stars Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach appear on American Idol to give American Idol hack host Ryan Seacrest a U.S. team jersey and to make a very special announcement which you can see below:

Yes, the winner of this season’s American Idol (really, does anyone still watch the show?) will sing the official Fox theme for the Women’s World Cup. It’ll give the winner some exposure to the audience watching Fox’s coverage, but will it give him or her a career boost as the show used to? That remains to be seen.

Anyway, here is another announcement of this through Fox Soccer’s Twitter account.

This seems harmless on the whole, but so 2005.
