The New York Jets are a grease fire with no extinguisher in sight. Rex Ryan, head coach of the last six seasons, is likely watching his reign come to an end with his group currently sitting at 2-9.

After leading the team to consecutive AFC title games in 2009 and 2010, you would think the Jets organization would have some class and be tight-lipped about whether or not Ryan would be retained until the end of the season. Instead, general manager John Idzik has been a complete bozo, telling multiple people that Ryan was going to be fired before the season began, according to Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post:

Ryan, who will be the first person to tell you he is flawed, is a very good coach who will be pursued, at the very least, as a defensive coordinator the minute he becomes available.

But two sources told The Post in recent days Ryan has been hinting to people with whom he is close he is prepared to go directly to TV if (when?) he’s fired by the Jets.

Though he certainly would figure to be a natural at it because of his loquacious nature, Ryan to TV would be a surprising development considering how much coaching is in his blood.

If and when Ryan is booted out of the Big Apple, television apparently awaits the bombastic coach. It seems like a natural fit for a coach who has always been a first-rate hit at the podium, whether it has been talking about former Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder or telling Bill Belichick he would not kiss his rings.

ESPN already employs approximately four million washed up players and coaches, so the powers that be at Bristol could certainly have interest. Other suitors could be FOX Sports, CBS Sports or NFL Network, all of whom enjoy collecting a bevy of former NFL personnel.
