UFC announcer Mike Goldberg, who missed the company’s year-end show last weekend in Las Vegas, plans to return to the commentary position on January 26th for the UFC’s fifth show on Fox. Contrary to internet reports that surfaced last week saying that Goldberg was in rehab for an addiction to Adderall, the long-time UFC announcer confirmed to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting that he was dealing with a health issue related to a respiratory infection.

According to Helwani’s reports, the asthmatic Goldberg initially was suffering from his respiratory infection in October, and the medication he was given to combat the infection had severe side effects when combined with the asthma medication that Goldberg was already taking.

Goldberg’s UFC grind has actually slowed up over the last three months, which is probably a good thing for his recovery. But of the four events Goldberg called alongside Joe Rogan in the final three months of the year, only two were in America, with long treks to Rio de Janeiro and Montreal taking place in October and November respectively.

Hopefully Goldberg is back in the booth with Rogan for the next show on Fox, because the dynamic of Rogan and Jon Anik at UFC 155 didn’t seem to get much positive feedback from fans online. It takes awhile for a commentary team to build a rapport, and the Goldberg/Rogan duo has that established.
