Great plays, and great radio calls of them, can spring up anywhere, and one case in point is what happened in the Canadian Football League’s East Final Sunday. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats stormed back to tie the game inside the final two minutes on a terrific catch from Luke Tasker, and the Ottawa Redblacks then put themselves in a 2-and-25 hole with an almost-picked-off pass and a holding penalty. Then, this happened:

That’s an amazing eventual game-winning pass from Henry Burris to Greg Ellingson, and it’s especially remarkable considering the high snap and the way Ellingson was covered. It’s a pretty good call from TSN’s Rod Black, too. However, it can’t hold a candle to the excitement from TSN 1200 (local Ottawa sports radio) play-by-play man A.J. Jakubec:

“GREG ELLINGSON! A MIRACLE! ON SECOND AND 25!” Unsurprisingly, as Jakubec noted on Twitter, his voice was gone after the game:

Jakubec’s Twitter account has been flooded with congratulations, and he had a pretty good response to them:

That’s a great call, and a great response. Given the significance for Ottawa, too (this is just the current franchise’s second season, and the city’s first Grey Cup trip since 1981), it’s one that’s going to resonate through the years.
