Ratings News and Notes

  • NBC Sports reported that Total Audience Delivery (TAD) — factoring television and streaming audience figures — for the six-match windows that kicked off the 2017-18 season of English Premier League on Aug. 11-13 on the networks of NBC, NBCSN and CNBC — led by Brighton & Hove vs. Manchester City on NBC from Aug. 12 (915,000 viewers) — averaged 592,000 viewers – up 31 percent from last year’s opening weekend (452,000), which took place on the middle weekend of the 2016 Rio Olympics. The average of 592,000 viewers also marks the second-best TAD ever in the U.S. for the opening Premier League weekend. TV-only viewership for the six match windows averaged 546,000 viewers with live streaming accounting for 46,000 viewers, or more than 8 percent of the audience.

  • The NASCAR Monster Cup race Pure Michigan 400 on Aug. 13 was NBCSN’s top telecast of the week with 3.162 million viewers but down 6 percent from last year’s race (Aug. 28, 2016: 3.377 million viewers) and down 26 percent from two years ago (Aug. 15, 2015: 4.288 million viewers).

  • On Aug. 12, NASCAR Xfinity Series: Mid-Ohio Challenge on NBCSN registered 916,000 viewers, down 7 percent from last year’s race on USA Network which aired opposite the Olympics (Aug. 13, 2016: 985,000 viewers) and down 10 percent from two years ago when it had aired on NBCSN (Aug. 15, 2015: 1.021 million viewers).

    Also on Aug. 12, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series: LTI Printing 200 from Michigan on FS1 drew 546,000 viewers, down 11 percent from two years ago when it was known as the Careers for Veterans 200 (Aug. 15, 2015: 616,000 viewers). The 2016 race was delayed by rain and had aired on FS2, drawing 52,000 viewers on Aug. 27, 2016,

  • St. Louis Cardinals at Kansas City Royals on FS1’s Major League Baseball from Tuesday, Aug. 8 (620,000 viewers) was the network’s fifth-best MLB telecast audience this season and the top game that didn’t involve the New York Yankees nor the Boston Red Sox.

    The same two teams but in the city of St. Louis on Wednesday, Aug. 9 delivered an impressive 11.3 local rating in the St. Louis market, the best mark for a Fox Sports Midwest telecast since Cubs-Cardinals from Apr. 4 (12.0 local rating). The telecast peaked at 9:30-9:45 p.m. Central with 14.8 percent of St. Louis households. (Source: St. Louis Dispatch)

In total viewership for its entire week in Total Day (6 a.m. to 5:59 a.m.), NBCSN is up +4 percent (203,000 vs. 195,000) from one week earlier and down -75 percent (203,000 vs. 822,000) from the same week one year ago (August 8-14, 2016).

  • “Pro Football Talk AM” (Aug. 7-11): 14,000 (5,000 adults 18-49)
