Zach Wilson thought he was doing a wholesome thing during the New York Jets bye week, spending time in Utah with his family and girlfriend, but he probably should have cleared it first.

Jets owner Woody Johnson, head coach Robert Saleh, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, and supreme being Aaron Rodgers may have been okay with Wilson’s trip to Utah, but what about WFAN’s Shaun Morash?

“Zach Wilson, in what is about to be the biggest stretch of his career, decided it was as good time to take his girlfriend to Utah to apple and pumpkin pick and go to a haunted house,” Morash ranted on WFAN’s afternoon show with hosts Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber.

Barber argued that Wilson was trying to introduce his girlfriend to his family. Thankfully, Wilson’s mom has long sought to be a social media influencer, and her Instagram posts allowed football fans to keep tabs on the Jets quarterback last week.

“The Jets stink after byes,” Morash continued. “Zach Wilson’s season, last year, derailed after a bye. I believe 52 guys could have gone and visited families; the quarterback, the leader, needs to be at or around that facility all week last week, and Zach Wilson has not done enough to get his a** on a plane and go to Utah for a week.”

Morash, who loves to push the limits of accepted sports radio discourse, has since been obliterated on social media for obliterating Wilson’s use of the bye week.

It’s important to note the quote that Nick Faria, Jets beat writer for AM New York, attempted to attribute to Morash in the above tweet was a reckless reach and never uttered by the WFAN radio host. As ridiculous as the take was by Morash, he never broached the subject of mental health. It’s also important to note that this isn’t a person being overly passionate about the Jets; Morash is a diehard Giants fan. This is just a good old sports radio hot take, and it’s undoubtedly not Morahs’s first one of those.

Morash is correct; this will be the most significant stretch of Wilson’s career. And not just for the Jets and their playoff chances this season. Wilson’s performance in the coming weeks will also determine whether the rest of the league views him as a starting or backup quarterback. But Morash is also wrong; if Wilson leads the Jets to a loss this weekend against the Giants, it’s not because he picked an apple in Utah; he’s not a very good quarterback.
