On Wednesday, former Florida and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier appeared on Fox News to promote his new book, titled “Head Ball Coach.”
Now, that was a sensible name for Spurrier’s memoir given that “Head Ball Coach” has been his widely used nickname for decades. The person who runs Fox’s chyrons, however, did not get that memo.

Here you’ve got the Head Ball Coach, sitting next to a guy holding a book called “Head Ball Coach,” while the banner reads “Head Game Coach,” which sounds like the guy who runs the board-game shelf or maybe someone who offers lessons on how to hunt wild animals.
Seriously though, Spurrier appeared on Fox to promote two things: himself and his book, and the station misnamed both, simultaneously.
In the annals of sports-related graphic mix-ups, this does not quite match the time a Seattle TV station put up a picture of Gary Payton instead of Peyton Manning, but it’s embarrassing nonetheless.
