The Bahamas Bowl will have a new location and a new name, but just for the 2023 edition of the game.

On Thursday, ESPN announced that the ESPN Events-operated bowl game would be moving from the Bahamas to Charlotte, North Carolina because of ongoing construction at the game’s host in Nassau, the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium. The bowl game will also be renamed for 2023, though that has yet to be announced.

The game will now be held at the Jerry Richardson Stadium at UNC Charlotte and will take place at 2:30 p.m. ET on Monday, December 18.

“We appreciate the support and willingness of Charlotte and its administration, specifically Director of Athletics Mike Hill, to work with us on relocating this game to Jerry Richardson Stadium,” said Clint Overby, Vice President, ESPN Events. “We are fortunate to have great partners who understand the importance of the college football postseason and the positive impact these games have on both student athletes and the participating programs.”

Additionally, ESPN announced that the Myrtle Beach Bowl (another ESPN Events game) will be shifted to Saturday, December 16 at 11 a.m.

The Bahamas Bowl pits a team from the MAC against a Conference USA team. Last year, UAB beat Miami, Ohio 24-20.

Following the completion of the renovations, the game is expected to return to the Bahamas under the Bahamas Bowl name in 2024.

ESPN Events is a dominant force in the college football bowl landscape, currently operating 17 bowl games (including the FCS Celebration Bowl). Disney networks will air nearly all of the bowl games in this year’s bowl season, aside from the Holiday Bowl (Fox), Sun Bowl (CBS), and Arizona Bowl (Barstool).
