St. Louis no longer has an NFL franchise now that the Rams have left for Los Angeles. The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to fill the void left behind.

Per the Kansas City Star, Chiefs president Mark Donovan told fans last Friday that would be broadcasting at least all of their preseason games as well as coaches shows and “Chiefs Rewind” in the St. Louis TV market.

Donovan also provided some insight into what the NFL decided to do with the market’s open TV availability now that there was no franchise.

Donovan said at the NFL’s annual meeting in March that the league had to decide how to split up St. Louis’ preseason television rights among the four teams that surrounded the market — Kansas City, Chicago, Tennessee and Indianapolis.

Donovan said the league decided to allow any NFL team that could find enough broadcast partners in the area to broadcast its games there for one year.

Allowing for this to happen for one year is a loophole the league is providing to the Chiefs since otherwise they would have to “give up cities that matched that (St. Louis) population” per league rules.
The Cheifs have yet to announce any local broadcasting partner for St. Louis. Donovan added that the franchise will be “respectful” of Rams fans still greiving over the loss of their team but will take advantage of the available in-state market all the same.
