Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig wore an awesome pair of customized Nike spikes on Sunday in Arizona, paying tribute to legendary Dodgers play-by-play man Vin Scully.

The outside of the left shoe reads, “Win for Vin”, and features an image of the Hall of Fame broadcaster. The inside of the right shoes reads a hashtag “#ITFDB”, as in Scully’s trademark opening line on broadcasts, “It’s time for Dodger baseball!”:

Scully is in his 67th and final season, and Puig made sure to quickly correct his translator who said it was Scully’s 65th season (via ESPN):

When Puig’s translator said that Scully was in his 65th season, Puig instantly corrected him in English: “67!”

Puig said how he “likes the way that he [Scully] narrates” and that Scully “deserves his respect”:

Very cool.

Unfortunately, we may not be seeing these beautiful Scully cleats in game action again anytime soon. The superstitious Puig went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts, one of which was a strikeout in a key ninth-inning spot of a 6-5 Dodgers loss to the Diamondbacks. Puig says he may have to go back to the spikes he “got hits with” (via OC Register):

“I’ll wear the ones I got hits with again,” he said. “But since I only got one hit with these and struck out, who knows?”
