During Media Day on Tuesday, Rick Reilly made a seemingly innocuous comment about Crowd Goes Wild host Regis Philbin, calling him "the little guy in the makeup." He also mistook Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas for congresswoman Gabby Giffords in one of the more hysterical moments of the day, but that's besides the point. Although Reilly was trying to be funny, it sure did seem like the first meaningful, direct shot fired in a long time between ESPN and Fox Sports 1.
Enter Katie Nolan.
Nolan, the "girl who's blowing up the Internet" on CGW, laid into Reilly on Tuesday's show after the comment. Here are some of the highlights of her rant.
-"Knowing Rick, he probably borrowed that line from a column he wrote ten years ago"
-"Speaking of not knowing who people are, this was right after he mistook two-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas for inspirational congresswoman Gabby Giffords"
-"Your greatest hits include misquoting your own father-in-law, demanding that Stuart Scott credit you for a tweet, being so lazy that you repeatedly rip off yourself, having a website that looks like it was created in 1996, and posing for this picture"
Katie Nolan didn't bring a gun to a knife fight, she brought a bazooka. Game, set, and match.
