If you’ve been a regular listener to ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the Morning or watched the simulcast on ESPN2, then you’ve heard Mike Golic talk about his son, Mike, Jr. over the years. You know about his exploits following his dad into football at Notre Dame, then his travails with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Lately, Golic, Jr. has been exploring a career in media. He joined ESPN last November and started doing a football-themed podcast with his dad aptly called “Mike and Mike, Jr.” He also guest hosted on Mike and Mike while his dad was away and since January, has been on a weekend show on ESPN Radio.

Now, Golic, Jr. gets to do an overnight show on ESPN called “First and Last with Lundberg and Golic, Jr.” that will lead into Mike and Mike. ESPN Radio says Golic, Jr. will do the show with Robin Lundberg who has been fronting a daily morning show of his own on ESPN Radio’s New York station and also hosting a weekend show on the national ESPN Radio. It debuts this Monday, April 4.

Now, Lundberg and Golic, Jr. will be hosting a two-hour show from 4-6 a.m. ET that according to the official announcement “will recap the previous night’s highlights and delve into the coming day’s stories.”

Of course we have quotes from both Mike, Jr. and Lundberg on this new venture:

“This past year, I’ve been very fortunate to work with a lot of great people and with a great audience on the weekends,” said Golic Jr. “I’m very excited to have the chance now to interact with the weekday crowd and to do so with someone as talented as Robin Lundberg.”

Added Lundberg:  “For the last few years I’ve been able to connect to a loyal fan base in this time slot in New York and am thrilled to be able to expand that audience and be partnered with someone like Mike Golic Jr. as together we set the agenda for the day’s talk.”

So for Golic, Jr., it’s an opportunity to continue his media career. As for his football career, it appears he’s ready to move on and once again follow his father’s footsteps into another realm.

Here’s the new weekday ESPN Radio schedule as of April 4, ESPN stresses every show is live:
