Keith Jackson has been revered as the true voice of college football. His last game was the Rose Bowl between Texas and USC in 2006 and as Jackson told the Dan Patrick Show, he hasn’t attended a football game, pro or college since. Jackson has been enjoying his retirement and for the most part, has remained off the air albeit for various appearances either on the Big Ten Network and selected radio guest spots.
To celebrate his 88th birthday, the Dan Patrick Show had Jackson on to talk about his career calling college football on ABC and to have him weave a few tales. Of course, Jackson has been known for saying “Whoa Nellie” when there was a big moment during a game, but there have been some who felt he had never said it, that it was more of an urban myth. Well, Keith set the record straight, first on the origin of the saying and by admitting he used it:

While it appears that Keith is enjoying his retirement and being away from the spotlight, it was great to hear his voice again. Here’s hoping we get to see him down the road.
