After CM Punk’s departure from WWE, he went on Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast and absolutely torched WWE and several company employees. One of those employees was Dr. Christopher Amman, who Punk accused of misdiagnosing a staph infection. Amman is now suing Punk and Cabana for over $1 million, claiming that Punk and Cabana’s statements insinuated “a lack of integrity … and/or inability or lack of competence to perform his professional duties as a medical doctor” and that they caused his reputation as a doctor to suffer.

When you dig into Punk’s comments and Amman’s claims, it’s tough to see him having much of a legal case here. Lawsuits like this turn into a he said/he said situation, and if there isn’t documentation to back up Amman’s claims, he probably won’t have much of a leg to stand on in court. If he does and actually has a case, he’ll probably just settle out of court and WWE will beat their chests about “beating Punk in court” or something like that (for a fraction of the award he got when he sued WWE after leaving, but that’s beside the point).

I think we all knew a lawsuit from someone at WWE would transpire after the podcast was released. But it doesn’t seem like a great idea for one of WWE doctors to be the one bringing the suit, especially considering that three lawsuits have been filed against WWE over the last few months, dealing with wrongful death, concussions, and “selling violence” while ignoring concussions. For a WWE doctor to counter those claims by suing someone who publicly defamed him over concussion (and staph) treatment seems ridiculous in the grand scheme of things.
