There’s nothing, I repeat, nothing, that I love more than handing out fake awards. It’s the backbone of the blogosphere – regular people making all sorts of lists, rankings, awards, bests and worsts, and other kinds of arbitrary opinions on whatever they feel. This is the communal core of the internet, at least the original and purest form of it before Buzzfeed and others had to come along and ruin everything.
There’s truly a difference between awards voted on and decided by the people versus awards that are given out by the establishment. You may remember last May we held the First Annual People’s Sports _____’s to honor the best in sports media. Those became the First Annual People’s Sports TV Awards To Be Named And Trademarked Later thanks to a lovely document received by our parent company. Since Bob Costas didn’t win every award, we considered this progress.
Against all odds, the PSTVATBNATL are back for a second edition! And they probably need a new name, but there’s only so much we can do at one time.
This year our expert panel has expanded to include people from all walks of the sports media world and you will help decide our winners as well. (We can’t really call it the People’s Awards without a fan vote, can we?) Winners will be decided through a 50/50 split between our panel and AA readers.
But first, we need your help with nominees. Below you’ll find the categories. You can leave as many nominees as you’d like for each category in the comments below. Just remember to leave nominees and vote based on the May 2013-May 2014 timeline. Your nominations along with those of the AA staff will be combined to decide the finalists for voting that will open next week.
