You may remember last year when a Florida TV sports anchor named Peter Busch reported that highly decorated Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps was going to come out of retirement and attempt a return to competition.

Busch of WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, FL stuck to his guns despite a strong denial from Phelps.

Well, it may have taken 11 months, but Phelps is indeed making a comeback as he will swim in a meet later this month with hopes of eventually competing at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. You can argue that Busch got lucky, but apparently he had sources telling him that Phelps was planning to return all along.
We should have learned from the Brett Favre saga that retirement pledges have to taken with grains of salt and in the case of Phelps, many grains, perhaps somewhere in the tons.
