On Saturday during Rafael Nadal’s match at Wimbledon, a group of fans decided to grab a row of seats to spell out “Vamos NADAL” to show their support for the Spaniard. The idea was good, but the execution was bad when one fan failed to show up and they spelled out “Vamos NADL” instead.
This did not escape the attention of ESPN tennis announcers Chris Fowler and John McEnroe nor the official ESPN Tennis Twitter account.
ESPN’s staff did some digging and discovered why the second “A” was missing. Fowler said the second “A” failed to show up after a night out.
McEnroe said, “Call Scotland Yard, ABP for a guy with a yellow shirt with an A.” And he added, “I think he’d be easy to spot. In a pub nearby.”
But Johnny Mac didn’t stop there, “We hope he’s okay, number one. Number two, if he is OK, he’s a complete idiot.”
Leave it to McEnroe to sum up what many fans might have been thinking after seeing the failed attempt to spell out “NADAL.”
