What if I told you George Washington put on a red coat to fight for the British? What if I told you Derek Jeter placed a Red Sox cap atop his head to play for the Red Sox, or David Ortiz actually put on a Yankees hat instead of just for a fun SportsCenter commercial? That’s the thought that should disturb a number of people. In Big Ten country, the mere thought of a player transferring from Michigan to Ohio State should bring similar feelings, and we imagine that level of disgust is being felt by fans of the Michigan men’s basketball program.
Andrew Dakich reportedly will transfer from Michigan to Ohio State for the upcoming college basketball season. As a graduate transfer, he will be eligible to play right away this season. Jeff Goodman of ESPN reported the news via Twitter:
Michigan grad transfer Andrew Dakich told ESPN that he will be playing at Ohio State next season. Chris Holtmann needed help in backcourt.

As noted by Eleven Warriors, the new addition to the roster has yet to be confirmed by Ohio State’s athletics department, but we can probably expect confirmation as soon as Ohio State can make sure the transfer goes off without a hitch.
Given this news out of the Big Ten, one can only imagine the reaction Dan Dakich would have. As the father of the Michigan-to-Ohio State player, you can imagine he is very supportive of the decision for any number of reasons. Of course, that support would seem to be a bit hypocritical given Dakich’s prior comments ripping the idea of a high school basketball player from Indiana going to play for a prep school in California, suggesting high school kids are recruited to play for a shoe company.
For what it is worth, Michigan and Ohio State are both Nike schools.
