MLB Productions is no more. The production arm of MLB that worked on archival footage and licensed content has been absorbed into MLB Network, which will take over the tasks that MLB Productions focused on. Less than half of the 58 MLB Productions employees were laid off, while the rest will be joining MLB Network.

A bit less than half of MLB Productions' 58 employees lost their jobs. Rest will become part of MLB Network staff.

MLB Network will perform many of old MLB Productions functions, inc developing licensed content, WS film, archives, etc.

MLB Net: to more efficiently produce original baseball content, we…decided to combine production areas in order to meet those obligations

It’s never good when people lose their jobs, but this seemed like an inevitable situation. MLB Network has become a behemoth, and it simply made sense for MLB Productions and its staff to become part of that behemoth and work more closely with the network.
As long as archival, relevant footage keeps getting uploaded to MLB.com and YouTube, you’re not going to see me losing my mind over this situation. It still sucks for the people losing their jobs, though.
