It’s been five years since Joe Theismann’s last big broadcasting gig as co-analyst of Thursday Night Football on NFL Network. Since then, he’s been calling Washington Redskins preseason games and making appearances here and there on a few NFL Network studio games, although he is not in the regular rotation of studio analysts.
He made a cameo in Nissan’s Heisman House commercial where he tries to hide from Jim Plunkett and Herschel Walker.

Theismann is also heard as a guest on various sports radio stations and networks. One of his latest guest spots was on Yahoo Sports Radio with Joe Spano. During his appearance, Spano asked Theismann about the Cleveland Browns situation and quarterback Johnny Manziel. The former Redskins QB told Spano that Manziel has to realize he’s always under the microscope and as soon as he realizes, the better off he’ll be.
Then he went one better and made a pitch to run the organization, “If you’re listening, I think I can help you.”
While the Browns have gone outside the box in hiring people like former Mets exec Paul DePodesta for their front office, maybe Theismann wouldn’t be as crazy as one would think. It would certainly keep him off radio and TV for a certain period of time.
