Normally a Colorado Rockies-Arizona Diamondbacks game doesn’t get coverage here, but we have a major broadcast milestone tonight. Root Sports Rocky Mountain’s Jenny Cavnar will join the Rockies radio booth to call the game.
You can count the number of women who call MLB games either on local radio or television on one hand and that count begins and ends at one with Suzyn Waldman who is the analyst for New York Yankees games on WFAN. That number will double tonight with Cavnar at the mic tonight.
Cavnar joins Rockies voice Jack Corrigan and she joked on KOA that she’ll “fill dead air when Jack needs a break.” Normally the pre and postgame host for Rockies games on Root Sports, this will mark the first time a woman will call a game for a National League team. Cavnar will sit in for Jerry Schemmel who is off tonight.
Cavnar says there hasn’t been much national attention on her stint tonight and she hopes to have some fun in the booth. She discussed her role with KOA this morning.
Cavnar has previously hosted the San Diego Padres pre and postgame shows when Cox owned the rights plus she has worked for ESPN and CBS College Sports.
