I have no idea how this happened. Well actually I do, but I still don’t believe it. The United States was barely alive in the Confederations Cup, thanks to an upset of Italy by the Egyptians, and somehow all the stars aligned for the Americans to advance. What were those stars you ask? They needed a win over Egypt by three goals and a Brazil win over the Italians by three or more as well. Here are some highlights and the closing moments of each match….
What a crazy group that was. You could of had a situation where three teams in the round robin would have had six points. Instead, a team somehow advanced with just three, and the World Champions were eliminated in the process. Just a great win for the Americans, but there is some bad news. They now have to face Spain, who boasts a current world-record win streak of fifteen games in a row.
