I noticed the other night that ESPN was back in the music business during Monday Night Baseball. They were playing hits from the new Gavin DeGraw album between innings and it couldn’t have been more awesome! Well ESPN is going to take it a step further for the European Championship in June. They’re getting Coldplay to provide the soundtrack to their coverage….

BRISTOL, Conn.: Coldplay and ESPN are teaming up on a soccer marketing campaign.

The rock band’s music will be featured in promotions for ESPN’s coverage next month of the European Championship soccer tournament, the sports network announced Wednesday.

ESPN agreed to incorporate music from Coldplay’s new release, “Viva La Vida,” into game and studio production. The quadrennial tournament is scheduled for June 7-29 in Austria and Switzerland. The CD is due out June 12.

There hasn’t been one of these “music releases” that have really annoyed me (outside of the Eagles on MNF), so it’s not THAT big of a deal, but expect more and more of them over the next year.
