The Kansas City Chiefs are not only on a historic on-field run, pushing for a Super Bowl three-peat.

They are also one of the most popular teams in the NFL.

As a result, the team recently celebrated a historic milestone among NFL teams: becoming the first to cross the 1 million subscriber threshold on YouTube. According to Sports Pro Media, the Chiefs are only the second American professional sports team to reach this milestone. The channel grew by more than 50 percent during this past season alone.

Only the Philadelphia Eagles have even half the YouTube subscribers of the Chiefs.

Driven by popular video series, including “The Franchise,” and other behind-the-scenes footage, such as a sneak peek at this year’s Chiefs Super Bowl rings, the team has hit big on YouTube. The social media monitoring site SocialBlade estimates the team could generate as much as $470,000 in revenue from the platform annually before factoring in sponsored content.

At the same time, Kansas City is also milking its TikTok presence.

With 5 million followers, the Chiefs are far and away the most popular NFL team on that platform as well. Only one other team (the Eagles) has crossed 3 million followers.

On TikTok, Kansas City relies more on funny content, such as players giving their New Year’s resolutions or head coach Andy Reid joking about dressing up like Santa Claus at a recent charity event.

Some might think the team’s proximity to megastar musician Taylor Swift rocketed them to the top of the social media charts, but a closer look shows that the team simply produces great content.
