We’ve seen plenty of cameramen hit during football games (or even before them), and the latest case there came during ESPN’s coverage of the XFL game between the New York Guardians and the St. Louis BattleHawks Sunday. In the first quarter, St. Louis quarterback Jordan Ta’amu threw a pass to L’Damian Washington deep down the sideline, and Washington couldn’t make the catch. He then took a heavy hit from New York safety A.J. Hendy. And Hendy bounced off Washington and knocked over a cameraman on the sidelines:
Hendy was called for unnecessary roughness on the play, which offset thanks to an earlier penalty on St. Louis. But he certainly made an impact on the cameraman. Here’s a look at that replay:
The cameraman bounced up pretty quickly and continued, so hopefully there were no serious injuries here. But it’s yet another reminder that sideline camera work can be hazardous indeed.
