WWE Network is one of the top OTT streaming networks in terms of subscribers and provides thousands of hours of content that is enjoyed by pro wrestling fans of all ages and eras. Since WWE’s formation of the network in 2014, Disney Streaming Services (formerly BAMTech) were working with WWE to launch and maintain the network.
According to Variety, WWE is set to make a change and will join the new company Endeavor Streaming. Endeavor recently merged with NeuLion when Endeavor bought the service provider for $250 million. Endeavor kept their name and discontinued NeuLion and is now looking at obtaining various streaming partners around the world.
In a statement to Variety, WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon said, “Endeavor Streaming’s best-in-class technology enables us to offer more features, elevate the user experience and provides us even more opportunity to delight our fans around the world.” Endeavor Streaming president of business operations Will Staeger used to work for WWE, so that should only strengthen the relationship between the two companies.
According to Endeavor, along with WWE, the streaming group recently signed customers including the U.K.’s BT Sport Box Office service and OSN, an entertainment network serving the Middle East and North Africa.
Endeavor Streaming’s clients also include the NFL, NBA, Euroleague, Univision, Sportsnet, Sky Sports, MSG, National Geographic, and Big Ten Network. In addition, the group will continue supporting the streaming products of Endeavor-owned properties including UFC’s UFC.TV and Fight Pass and PBR’s Ride Pass.
It’s too early to speculate what Endeavor plans to do to enhance WWE Network and make it better for subscribers. If you were to talk to many subscribers, other than the quality of the current product, most of them would prefer more content, which isn’t really Endeavor’s issue. But if it means installing more features and developing a smoother experience for viewers, maybe Endeavor’s input on WWE Network will be the kind that won’t necessarily be noticed but will be appreciated.
