When WWE and NBCUniversal announced SmackDown would return to the USA Network this fall after five years on Fox, the press release also mentioned that NBC would air quarterly WWE specials throughout the deal.

On Tuesday, WWE officially announced that the first special to air on NBC will be on December 14 and will feature the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

WWE also released a video to accompany the announcement.

From 1985 to 1991, WWE and NBC partnered to bring fans 29 SNME shows, and they played a pivotal role in promoting Hulk Hogan or WrestleMania as they attempted to woo WWE mainstream exposure.

On NBC,Ā SNME would air during the Saturday Night Live timeslot, taking over when the show was in its off-season or otherwise not airing that week. That seemingly won’t be the case this time, as the reveal trailer noted that December 14’s show would start at 8 p.m. ET, be available on Peacock as well as NBC, and will take place at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, the site of the first SNME.

TwoĀ SNMEĀ episodes also aired on Fox in 1992, and the company briefly rebooted the event for five unmemorable shows on NBC from 2006 to 2008.
