A lot has changed for both WWE and Brock Lesnar since 2023’s SummerSlam, when Lesnar wrestled his most recent match, to date, for the company. But after Cody Rhodes defeated John Cena in the main event of Night 2 at SummerSlam in 2025, Lesnar returned to attack Cena. The return was not without controversy.
Lesnar’s music got a massive pop out of the MetLife Stadium crowd. Announcer Michael Cole screamed, “Holy shit” upon seeing Lesnar.

So, what’s the problem?
In early 2024, WWE’s longtime Chairman Vince McMahon resigned from the company when a lawsuit and federal investigation came to light. Lesnar was part of the lawsuit, as well, and has largely been persona non grata within WWE ever since.
It’s also worth noting that at SummerSlam, WWE announced that it would discontinue the practice of post-show press conferences. And while the scripted nature of professional wrestling makes press conferences after shows something of a shaky (at best) idea to begin with, this might have represented a chance to get something meaningful out of a press conference.
The decision to stop doing press conferences at the event where such a controversial return took place did not go unnoticed.
I’m on a mini vacation right now, but… between Brock Lesnar still being part of the active litigation against WWE and Vince McMahon and no press conference…
I know what might win the Observer award for Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic. #WWE #SummerSlam https://t.co/tCdLexZrtG

Triple H dropping the post show press conference so that no one could question him about bringing back a sex offender shows the scummy piece of shit he is
A reminder that Brock told Vince that he’d only return to WWE if he got to sleep with a young WWE employee #Summerslam pic.twitter.com/Nc0KhEuktI

And suddenly the announcement that WWE will not be doing press conference style post shows anymore makes even more sense.

WWE canceled the press conference after #SummerSlam specifically because they knew Lesnar was coming back. Just coward stuff from a company that does not give a fuck. I’m not sure how anyone can say anything otherwise. https://t.co/5KUFEHeub7

Now we know why there’s no press conference tonight.
Because they KNOW they fucked up.
Just FILLLLLLLLLTHY work @WWE #SummerSlam

No press conference…. probably so they didn’t have to answer anything further about Hogan, Brock or WWE Unreal?

WWE: Hey guys, we’re not gonna do that whole post show press conference thing anymore. Just gonna do our own thing.

Probably a good weekend for WWE to end press conferences #SummerSlam
