The sudden rise in popularity in the WNBA has raised discussion about women’s sports in general to perhaps an all-time high. And to capitalize on this, Seattle Storm star Skylar Diggins-Smith and popular multimedia site Just Women’s Sports are planning to work together on a new docuseries that will hopefully bring even more stories about women’s sports to light.

Just Women’s Sports announced the upcoming venture with Diggins-Smith on Wednesday, detailing that the series will be a six-episode series that “re-examines some of the most important stories in the history of women’s sports”.

There are still a number of details that are yet to be known about the looming docuseries, specifically as to whether this will be done on the JWS platform or potentially on a specific streaming or television platform. But here is a brief breakdown of what to expect in the upcoming series from the JWS announcement.

“Diggins-Smith, who just began her first season with the Seattle Storm, and JWS are developing the docuseries as a way to bridge the past and present while bringing more authentic storytelling to the women’s sports space. The six-episode series will examine how each narrative impacted the way female athletes are treated and discussed in the media today.”

According to JWS, Diggins-Smith will be an executive producer of the docuseries, which she says presents her with an opportunity to tell some “compelling stories” that are “authentic, impactful, and real”.

“Women’s sports are breaking into the mainstream in a major way, but some of the most compelling stories have not been told in a way that’s authentic, impactful, and real,” said Diggins-Smith. “Just Women’s Sports is the perfect partner for this project because they understand what makes women athletes unique,” she said. “They’re a brand that celebrates every part of the game, and they talk about sports in a way that resonates with fans and the professional athletes in this space.”

We don’t have any specific date at this time for when this docuseries could come. But given the fact that the WNBA seems to be rising in popularity by the minute, it should certainly get some buzz whenever it is released.
