The Indiana Fever defended home court on Tuesday, defeating the Las Vegas Aces 99–89 in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. In the fourth quarter, things got a bit heated, with Aces star A’ja Wilson confronting a fan under the basket.

The scene began when Wilson ran into Fever guard Sophie Cunningham sending her to the ground. After the play, Wilson was pointing and heatedly talking to a fan under the basket, clearly upset by something. Wilson was held back and eventually assessed a technical foul for the interaction, and the fan was temporarily removed from the scene but not ultimately ejected.

“Following a report of a comment directed toward a player, arena security spoke with the fan involved and witnesses,” the Fever said in a statement. “Security determined there was no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct, the fan was not removed from the arena. We consider the matter closed.”

After the game, Wilson addressed what happened while speaking to reporters.

“I don’t know if you guys know me, but I don’t really get into the bullsh*t,” said Wilson, a four-time WNBA MVP. “I don’t. I try to play my game, keep it pushing. But if I’m just walking — just got the foul, I’m chilling. If I see a man come at me, taking steps towards me, and pointing at me, I don’t give a damn what you said. I don’t give a damn how you said it, the tone, that is unacceptable. You don’t step towards me. You never should step — and point at me. I’m not for that sh*t. At all. Excuse my french, and God bless me, but that there, it’s unacceptable.”

Wilson said that she apologized to her teammates for the fact that the interaction led to a technical foul, but “there’s certain things that I’m just not gonna allow anymore.”

Asked if the temperature of the game had gotten heated before the moment, Wilson said “not necessarily,” but added that it can be difficult to ignore things when it feels like lines are being crossed.

“I think that’s playoff basketball. People are going to be antsy,” Wilson said. “They’re home. Their backs are against the wall when it comes to us being one up. So I don’t think any tempers are flaring. I don’t think the heat of the gym or whatever was hot. It’s just playoffs time. No feelings matter right now. We’ve got to play some good basketball, and that’s what we hope that we can continue to display.

“It’s hard to just constantly be told, ‘Just play the game. Just play the game.’ And we’re just allowing nonsense to happen.”

The series will return to Las Vegas for a decisive Game 3 on Thursday.
