Nick Wright’s TV home will still be Fox Sports, but he’s taking his podcast talents to Colin Cowherd’s The Volume.
Andrew Marchand of The Athletic was first to share the news Wednesday morning, reporting Cowherd signed What’s Wright? With Nick Wright away from Fox Sports. The deal is especially interesting considering Cowherd and Wright both continue to have strong ties with Fox Sports.
Cowherd just signed a new deal with Fox Sports to keep The Herd on FS1 and will even move his show to Chicago, part-time. Wright, in his eighth season on First Things First, is undoubtedly one of the faces of FS1, with his Kansas City Chiefs fandom and NBA takes continuing to grow his profile.
What’s Wright? With Nick Wright, which he co-hosts with his son, Damonza Byrd, launched in January 2022 as part of a podcast rollout by Fox Sports that included The Skip Bayless Show. Both shows joined a podcast catalog for Fox Sports that featured Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay. Fast forward three years, Bayless’s podcast is now an independent act, with Wright and Sharpe both leaving Fox Sports for The Volume.
With Sharpe, Draymond Green and others working with The Volume brand, Cowherd’s platform has established itself as a major player in the podcast space. The Volume launched in 2021, and by 2023, Cowherd revealed it was already worth more than $100 million. It seems reasonable to assume that valuation has only continued to grow over the last two years.
Similarly, Wright’s podcast has continued to grow in recent years, nearing 180,000 subscribers on YouTube, while his reaction to the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade is already approaching 720,000 views. The next installment of What’s Wright? With Nick Wright is expected to continue featuring his son, with plans to begin featuring his wife and two daughters as well.
