It’s the AL Central’s world and we’re all living in it. The Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals both won 2-0 sweeps in the Wild Card round best of three and both did it on the road against the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles respectively. And they’ll join the Cleveland Guardians with the division having three out of four teams in the ALDS along with the New York Yankees.
But the Royals had a little bit of extra when it came to celebrating the series win on social media with this post on X (formerly Twitter). After clinching their first postseason series win since 2015, they posted the following picture on social media with Bobby Witt sitting on a throne and orange oriole feathers scattered everywhere.

The picture wasn’t a coincidence. It was a callback to this photo that the Orioles used to promote the beginning of the series with their bird sitting on a vacant throne proclaiming that the seat was taken.

Does anyone have a longer memory than admins for sports teams? You have to love and admire the pettiness and the callback. But also a shoutout to the folks that run the Royals account that also has one of the funniest captions in sports making sure there’s no confusion for followers, “The baseball team, not the British family.”
Whoever’s running the Yankees account better be careful not to make any Prince Harry or Prince William jokes in the lead-up to their upcoming ALDS matchup.
