Daniel Cormier proved throughout his MMA career that he is one of the toughest men ever to grace the UFC octagon. Unfortunately, toughness didn’t help Cormier during a recent trip to the hospital.

After he retired from MMA in August of 2020, Cormier has been a jack of all trades in the MMA media space, serving as a regular on the UFC broadcast team in addition to hosting an ESPN podcast alongside fellow UFC fighter Chael Sonnen. Additionally, Cormier and Sonnen took part in the most recent season of the UFC’s long-running reality television show, The Ultimate Fighter, coaching against one another.

On the most recent episode of Cormier and Sonnen’s Good Guy/Bad Guy Podcast, the former UFC heavyweight champion recalled how he recently spent time in the hospital after having an allergic reaction to a marinade he made for chicken that he cooked for his family.

“I have to share a story with you,” said Cormier. “I ended up in the hospital the other day, Chael. So, I think it was this new marinade I made for my kid’s chicken. Bro, I had an allergic reaction. Benadryl didn’t work, so I started scratching. I had hives all the way up my body, to my legs to my neck, My nose and everything started swelling up. I had to go to the hospital to get it done. It was bad, Chael. I had scratches all over my body from just itching. Dude, it was the craziest feeling.”

Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like this issue had any lingering effects for Daniel Cormier or that this is any kind of long-term issue. But given the type of physical punishment someone like Cormier went through in his fighting career, it certainly is telling that he described this allergic reaction as one of the “craziest” feelings of his life.
