UFC CEO Dana White is no stranger to ripping on the media.
But a press conference following UFC 312 on Saturday in Australia had White unleashing on the media like never before.
Towards the end of his press conference following the card, White was asked a question about an op-ed written by Sydney Morning Herald reporter Bevan Shields about the cozy relationship between him and Chris Minns, the premier of the state of New South Wales.
The UFC boss did not hold back in expressing his feelings on the Australian media.
“Holy f*cking sh*t. You guys have to have the biggest p*ssies of all time in the media here, just for the record,” White said after mocking Shields’ headline that he was “physically sick” watching the chummy relation between White and Minns displayed on a recent podcast.
Then, a reporter asked White if he had any reservations about placing American fighter Sean Strickland (known for plenty of controversial takes over the years) in the main event after the fighter recently criticized Australia’s gun reform by saying, “You had one mass shooting and gave up all your guns, that was kind of pathetic.”
In his answer, White reiterated his previous stances on valuing free speech.
“Everyone knows my stance on this, we’re going to take guys and girls that say and do a lot of things,” White said. “I’m a big believer in free speech and it probably seems worse when you come here because your media are such weak human beings. I thought we had weak media, you guys win hands down.”
When asked by the same reporter if he had heard from anyone in the Australian government about it, White said no, and then talked about how he and (presumably) Strickland were laughing about the op-ed before the fight.
“We were reading the story in the back and cracking up at that guy. That guy has gotta be the biggest f*cking wimp on planet earth,” White said.
“Even your people know that your f*cking media are weak. They even know, they know it. You know it. We all know it now. I didn’t know. Now I know.”
