How bad have the Chicago White Sox been this season?
So bad that they are being trolled on social media not just by fans, but by their own social media team.
The White Sox lost, again, Sunday, falling 4-2 to the San Diego Padres. It was their 120th loss of the season, tying the modern-era MLB record set by the expansion 1962 New York Mets. Here’s what the ChiSox social media team posted on X.

Whoever is running the account likely has the blessing of team management and ownership, because they’ve posted a number of snarky memes and comments as the White Sox’ losses have mounted in recent days.

The entire point of social media handlers for sports teams is to build excitement for the team, the players, fans, etc. and to help promote the product. Here’s the kind of fun content the Los Angeles Dodgers posted on X after a win Sunday.

When the White Sox win or make great plays, or when there are special promotions or other good news, the account plays it straight.
But after the last several losses, the social media team has displayed a gift for snark, including when the team lost a recent game to snap an unexpected three-game winning streak.
Narrator: the White Sox did not win 4 in a row 😑

With only six games remaining in the regular season, the White Sox are set to not just break the modern-era loss record, but “shatter” it in the words of White Sox analyst Ozzie Guillén. The former White Sox player and manager tried to explain the team’s ineptitude on Sunday’s post-game show, and struggled to find an answer.
“There’s a lot of questions in the air like, why, how, that happened,” Guillén said. “Embarrassing. … Even if you tried to do that, I don’t think you can do it.”
It’s a good bet no matter what happens in the final six games, the ChiSox social media crew will have something fun to say.
If it wasn’t for @whitesox twitter, Chicago sports would be depressing https://t.co/QFgbAcoXzp
