Community notes on X (formerly Twitter) are meant to add context to posts. Sometimes, it serves as a fact-checker. That was the case for the poor Baltimore Ravens late Thursday night.
Trailing 27-20, the Ravens appeared to score a touchdown on the final play from scrimmage in Thursday night’s NFL season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. Isaiah Likely got free in the end zone and hauled a pass in from Lamar Jackson. The cameras immediately shifted to Baltimore coach John Harbaugh, who was telling his team to go for two. Only, it never got that far.
As a scoring play, Likely’s catch was automatically reviewed. Replays showed that Likely’s toes were narrowly out of bounds. As Mike Tirico said, the Chiefs won “by a toe.”
The game-ending play and review.
Incredible way to open the 2024 NFL season.

That’s a tough loss. And things only got tougher on social media.
Prior to the review, Baltimore’s X account posted video of the would-be touchdown with the caption “TOUCHDOWN OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tune in on NBC!”
Naturally, there were several comments about the final result of the play. The message under “Readers added context they thought people might want to know” was a simple one.
“No, it wasn’t.”

Succinct, undeniable and brutal.
