Josiah Johnson has become a legend in the social media world for his countless memes connecting the NBA, pop culture and politics.
Now, the so-called “King of NBA Twitter” is set to stand in the spotlight himself.
Johnson stars in the new documentary, Memes & Nightmares, which premieres June 14 at the Tribeca Film Festival. That’s a serious venue, and the film site IMDB has an equally serious-sounding description of the film: “NBA Twitter king’s quest unravels the fleeting nature of online content and human bonds in the digital era, shaping our ephemeral connections.”
Johnson went on X (formerly Twitter) Friday to celebrate the film’s upcoming premiere, and to thank those who made it possible, including Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who serves as executive producer along with Maverick Carter.
A former UCLA basketball player, Johnson has credited James with helping make him a social media icon, after the Lakers star called him “the goat” of Twitter in June 2021.
