Bill Belichick has joined X.
This news would have seemed stunning a few months ago, but it’s a new world for Belichick, who became the North Carolina Tar Heels head coach in December. That role has forced the 72-year old coach to adopt an online presence for recruiting purposes. He’s already on Instagram, and recently revealed that account has been “busy” with potential recruits.
Now, it’s on to X. Belichick shared the news Monday during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, although he used the platform’s former name.
“I’m officially on Twitter, so you can follow me there,” Belichick said.
“You hated social media for a long time, now you’re all over it,” McAfee observed. “Obviously, the future is social media.”

For anyone who might have expected something profound in Belichick’s first post, perhaps a wise coaching or motivational thought, sorry. He instead posted a shot at North Carolina’s archrival, Duke: “’Beat Dook’ my first words as a boy are my first words on X! Go Heels!” Belichick posted.

It’s essential for college coaches today to work social media in their recruiting. Belichick had players reaching out to him shortly after announcing his account.
Hey coach! My name is Gavin Mentzer and I’m a K/P in the Class of 2025 still looking for a school. I believe that I would be a great fit for your program! I would love to have the chance to have a conversation with you in the near future. My stats, and accolades are in my 1st…

By early Monday evening, Belichick already had almost 15,000 followers and was reposting visits with recruits earlier in the day.
