One of the many changes in college football this season is that SMU is now in the ACC. After the Mustangs won a big non-conference game on Saturday, the ACC boasted about SMU on social media. In the process, they also trolled the team the Mustangs beat, as well as the network the game was on.

SMU routed TCU 66-42 on Saturday, giving the Mustangs the Iron Skillet for the first time since 2021. The last time SMU beat its Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex rivals anywhere that soundly was 1985, when the Mustangs beat the Horned Frogs 56-21. Saturday’s victory was SMU’s tenth over TCU since 1985 and none of the others were by more than 11 points.

As SMU was the home team, Saturday’s game was broadcast as part of the ACC on The CW package. The CW Network can be a little tough for viewers to find — assuming they even have the network as part of their cable package. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney remarked in 2023 that he didn’t even know how to access it.

After Saturday’s game, the ACC Football X (formerly Twitter) page had some fun with The CW’s reputation — as well SMU’s dominant win over TCU — a Big 12 school.

“‘Thank goodness it was only on The CW’ – TCU fans, probably,” the post said.

The CW Sports X page found humor in the situation, as well, replying “Probably.”

Those posts came minutes after The CW’s X page posted the 66-42 final score with Paula Cole’s I Don’t Want to Wait, the opening theme for Dawson’s Creek — a longtime WB staple, playing.

What the game lacked in suspense it more than made up for in postgame humor.
