A young sports journalist covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans tragically died on Wednesday.
Adan Manzano, 27, a sports anchor and reporter for Telemundo 39 in Kansas City, died on Wednesday while on assignment in New Orleans. Per Variety, a cause of death was not disclosed.
Telemundo 39 released a statement on social media on Thursday to confirm the news.
We are saddened to share that Adan Manzano passed away yesterday in New Orleans, while on assignment to cover the Super Bowl for both Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports. We are cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate this tragic event.
As KGKC’s Sports Anchor & Reporter, Adan was a true professional and a rising star, who exemplified excellence in his work. We will deeply miss Adan and his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas also took to social media to share his condolences. “Adam was so young and full of energy, and truly covered almost every event in the community,” Lucas’ post read. “So very sad to see this news. My condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.”

To make the tragedy worse, Manzano’s death occurred just 10 months after his wife died in a car crash while driving his 1-year old daughter, who survived.
Manzano had previously worked for La Semana del Sur, Reyes Media Group, and Sky Sports Mexico, prior to taking his job at Telemundo 39 in 2021.
