There are plenty of bizarre Paul Bissonnette moments circulating on the internet, and “Biz Nasty” added another clip to that collection Wednesday night.

The NHL on TNT crew talked to Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid after his huge game in a win over the Minnesota Wild. The three-time Hart Trophy winner had two goals along with an assist and passed Jari Kurri for second in career points in Oilers history. He trails only Wayne Gretzky on that list.

Gretzky started things off by praising McDavid.

“First off Gretz, I heard that, thank you very much,” McDavid said. “Those words mean a lot to me.”

After some small talk about McDavid’s recent birthday — he turned 28 on Jan. 13 — Bissonnette cracked a joke about an incident in the game in which McDavid elbowed Wild forward Marcus Johansson in the face.

“Wayne Gretzky’s favorite player was Gordie Howe and he said that you actually had a Gordie Howe hat trick tonight — you had your goal, your assist and you elbowed a player in the face,” Bissonnette said. “Are you taking credit for that elbow?”

“No, look, it’s unfortunate, and I hope he’s OK,” McDavid. “Not obviously trying to hurt anybody out there. … Very unfortunate.”

“Listen, you were having fun, you were enjoying yourself,” host Liam McHugh said. “We just couldn’t let that last. We had to get a question in just to make you rethink ever coming on again with us.”

For those who missed it, here’s the play in question.

Bissonnette’s question seemed much less funny Thursday when the Wild announced Johansson has been placed on IR with a concussion and is expected to miss at least a week.
