On the opening day for the NHL, one prominent analyst earned himself a contract extension.

Longtime NHL analyst Anson Carter has reached a multiyear extension with TNT Sports, the network announced on Tuesday. Carter has been a staple of the network’s studio coverage since it began its current media rights deal with the NHL in 2021, working alongside analysts Wayne Gretzky, Paul Bissonnette, and Henrik Lundqvist along with host Liam McHugh.

Carter began his broadcasting career with NBC Sports in 2013 after 11 seasons as an NHL journeyman, which included stints with the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers. At NBC, Carter served as one of the network’s go-to hockey analysts during NHL coverage, as well as the Winter Olympics and occasional college hockey telecasts. Despite having left NBC for TNT when its NHL rights expired before the league’s latest set of national broadcast deals, Carter continued to contribute to the network’s hockey studio earlier this year during the United States’ run to Olympic gold in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

The exact term of Carter’s new deal with TNT Sports was not disclosed, though it would make sense for it to be a two-year contract that expires when the network’s current media rights deal with the NHL ends after the 2027-28 season. This season marks the final time TNT Sports will air the Stanley Cup Final under the current agreement, with next year’s Final slated for ESPN/ABC.
