We all have our verbal tics, but I haven’t quite heard one as dramatic as the following… especially in a profession that relies solely on verbal communication.  In this clip, WFAN’s Marc Malusis says “you know” 9 times in the span of 22 seconds.

NINE times!

I have no idea how “you know” became the go-to verbal tic, but here we are.  Unless you listen for these kinds of verbal crutches, they often go unnoticed in the course of daily conversation.  Listen very closely to the next athlete interview you hear and there may be one present.  When you really pay specific attention to them, the proliferation of verbal crutches can be startling… you know?
